Kathleen Schonau, RN, BSW, Certified Care Manager, Certified Guardian
Kathleen worked in Discharge Planning and Social Services at Pacific Communities' Hospital for 9 years and for the State of Oregon Senior Services serving as a Case Manager for 2 1/2 years, which gave her firsthand experience and inside knowledge of the resources on the Oregon Coast. She began her own geriatric nurse case management consulting company, Aging Wisely, in 2003.
Formal professional associations include past member of the hospital Ethics Committee, election to the local hospital Board of Directors, National Certification in Case Management, Nationally Certified Guardian and member Governor’s Commission on Senior Services.
After completing a bachelors in Social Work from the University of California, Kathleen graduated with honors from Presbyterian School of Nursing, Denver, CO. She was employed as a staff and surgical nurse at Lutheran Medical Center in Denver for 11 years.
When her family relocated to Oregon in 1991, Kathleen worked for 9 years at Pacific Communities' Hospital in Newport, OR, in Discharge Planning and Social Services, which gave her first hand knowledge of the resources on the Oregon Coast.
For the next 2 ½ years Kathleen served as a Case Manager for the State of Oregon (Senior Services), where she has worked with clients in their own homes, hospitals, senior residences, adult foster care homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes and specialized Alzheimer's Units.
Having worked in the medical setting and in Senior Services, Kathleen brings firsthand experience and inside knowledge to seniors and families, acting as an effective guide and advocate.
